Works by Scott Rothman:
TODD VS. THE TITANIC
THE RUBBER ROOM
DAMNED FOND OF YOU
RIBBIT
Synopses:
Todd vs. The Titanic – Todd vs. The Titanic is a one-man musical about the band that played on the Titanic – where all 5 members and all the other cast members – are portrayed by only one actor for apocalyptic reasons that become clearer as the musical goes on.
The Rubber Room – The Rubber Room is an existential comedy about real places that used to exist in NYC called “rubber rooms” (that are now banned but keep popping up still) – where NYC public school teachers accused of wrongdoing were made to go instead of teaching while they waited for their cases to be heard by the Department of Ed. Like an adult BREAKFAST CLUB, the play takes place in one location, over the course of one day, and focuses on a group of 6 teachers who are stuck in one of these rooms together – and help each other get unstuck.
Damned Fond of You – Damned Fond of You tells the story of the often-troubled friendship between F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway and is based on actual meetings between the two. Skipping around chronologically, the play shows two charismatic but damaged artistic geniuses who are at first drawn to one another, but ultimately driven apart by both their similarities and differences. It is a play about loss, legacy, friendship, masculinity and the complications inherent in living an artistic life.
Ribbit – Based on a true story, Ribbit is a comedic musical about the last male frog of his species who is facing extinction if he can’t find a mate… and the human female scientist who creates an online dating profile to help him.
