Nimisha Ladva

The daughter of Indian immigrants, Nimisha Ladva was born in Kenya and raised in the U.K. She is a playwright, screenwriter, and storyteller. She is an inaugural Powers Playwriting Fellow at the Old Globe Theater and was a member of 2023-2024 Playwright’s Realm cohort.  Her play Goddess at The Lucky Lady Motel was a 2022 PlayPenn New Play Development Conference selection, a 2024 Lift Every Voice Festival selection at the American Stage Theater, and was a finalist for the 2022 Jane Chambers Award in Feminist Playwriting and 2023 Finalist for the Pittsburgh Public Theater New Works Festival. Its first pages were written and heard at The Kennedy Center in the 2019 Playwriting Intensive. Her solo play, Uninvited, tells the true story of her journey from becoming an undocumented immigrant to becoming an American citizen, which she wrote about for The Guardian as well. She was previously a member of The Foundry, Philadelphia’s three-year playwright incubator, where she workshopped the first draft of Spitting Image. Her storytelling has been broadcast on The Moth Radio Hour, on NPR and BBC Radio 4, on Stories from the Stage on PBS, and many podcasts; she has performed in the US and Europe. Her short stories and essays have been published in the U.S. and U.K. Her work has been supported by grants from the Mellon Foundation and the Leeway Foundation. She lives outside Philadelphia.
