Synopses:
Elyria – A loose adaptation inspired by the characters of The Little Clay Cart. A story of two mothers who meet as girls and then migrate over oceans and continents only to end up in a small town in Ohio, forced to confront a secret of their past, only they know.
Mai & Maa – Mai and Maa go out to lunch. Lured by the beckoning call of some friends, their trip takes an unexpected turn through the New Jersey woods which ask them to grapple with the existential questions of their relationship, all while trying to keep hold of their connection to the real world outside the woods.
The In Between: A Love Story – A love story between people and plants that transcends time and investigates the colonization of islands in our world. This is a full-length play of 22 pages that should take no less than an hour to perform.
Bio:
Deepa Purohit is an award-winning playwright (The 2024 Hermitage Greenfield Prize for Theater for her newest work Mxx MotherCare aka The Dignity Project and the 2023 Laurents Hatcher Foundation Excellence in Playwriting Award for Elyria). Deepa is a 2023 – 2030 New Dramatists Resident. She co-founded and ran Rising Circle Theater Collective & the RC INKtank Writers Lab (2000-2012). Ma-Yi Theatre Co. Legacy Labbie. MFA, Playwriting: Brooklyn College. MPH: Columbia University. Deepa is currently adapting her play Elyria into a TV series.
