Janice Pytel is a Chicago based costume designer who specializes in collaborating with playwrights, directors, and actors on developing characters in new plays. She excels at designing contemporary realism, mid-20th century styles, and period/modern fusions and gravitates towards a minimalist aesthetic. She has collaborated with numerous award-winning playwrights and directors including Les Waters, Lucas Hnath, David Cromer, Ron OJ Parson, Bruce Norris, Anna D. Shapiro, Doug Wright and Moisés Kaufman. In Chicago she has designed at Steppenwolf, Victory Gardens, Court Theatre, Writer’s Theatre, Goodman, Chicago Opera Theater and many others. Her work at Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, where she is an ensemble member, includes critically acclaimed mid-west premiers of The Cake, Dry Land, and How the World Began.
