Rodney Bush is a musical theater, film, and classical composer; as well as a keyboardist, songwriter, and music producer. His music navigates the lived experiences of beings in nature and society. His song cycle with Eric Rosen, “Leaves: Songs of Ourselves,” which premiered in 2022 at 54 Below, explores the queer origins of American Democracy through the lens of Walt Whitman and his poetry. Their musical “Stoker” is currently in development. He writes with Zeniba Now, the highly lauded and awarded librettist of The Loophole, composing the writing team of ZNRB they write theatre and film music that hybridizes pop and theater to create experiences that tell deep stories while also making you move. Rodney has also written a children’s musical adaptation of Around The World In 80 Days which premiered at Theatre Raleigh in 2019.
He is the keyboardist, co-songwriter, and one of the founding members of the glam rock band Tony & The Kiki. They are currently back playing live shows and taking the world by storm with thousands of followers across various social platforms. As a songwriter and music producer he has worked with several collaborators including Valleygirl, Brad Gibson, Jay Adana, and The Kilbanes.
Rodney composes music for film and tv with his collaborator anatu. They are currently scoring two short films to be released in 2023, and have released a cross section of their work in “___(OST).” He has worked for HBO as a composer and music editor on campaigns for “Industry” and more. He has also composed for radio, the radio play “The Gift” premiered in 2021 in Chicago.
He has released two albums of improvisations based on adjectives sent from friends and collaborators called “Project Adjective Vol 1&2.” His album “perhaps you forgot” was released in 2021 and explores loss and regret through a neo classical and ambient lens. Rodney is also a music director and his worked on over 50 productions nationally and internationally of musicals and operas both canonical and in development. He has served as the music director for many Broadway talents including: Eden Espinosa, Melora Hardin, Adam Kantor, Zeniba Now, Carmen Cusack, Eva Noblezada, Nick Adams, Claybourne Elder, and Margot Seibert.
He received his BM from Berklee College of music and studied Advance Composition at The Juilliard School. @rodneybush
