Regina De Vera was born and raised in Quezon City, Philippines. She moved to New York City in 2015 to pursue graduate training at The Juilliard School. While in Manila, she was a resident actor at the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors’ Company, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) resident theatre company for five years. In 2013, she won the PHILSTAGE Award for the Performing Arts for “Outstanding Female Lead” for her work as Portia in a Filipino adaptation of The Merchant of Venice.
Regina is the first Filipino to be admitted into the MFA Program of The Juilliard School’s Drama Division. Her first year of studies was made possible through a crowd-funding movement called #GoFundRegina covered by over 250 donors from different parts of the world, mostly from the Philippines.
Roles at Juilliard include Mother Courage in Mother Courage and Her Children, Little Red in Into the Woods, Lady Capulet/Lady Montague in Romeo and Juliet, Lady Nijo/Kit/Shona in Top Girls, Irina in The Three Sisters, Portia in Julius Caesar, Medea in Pecong (Medea), Marina/Lychorida in Pericles, and a very loud and boisterous Asian American man named Aly in Chuck Mee’s Queens Boulevard. She is a recipient of the Raul Julia Memorial Scholarship in Drama as well as the Juilliard Career Advancement Fellowship.
Regina made her professional debut in the United States playing the lead in Steve Martin’s The Underpants at The Old Globe Theatre. The production was directed by Tony-winning director, Walter Bobbie.
Credits in the Philippines include: Lam-ang in Manhid: The Pinoy Superhero Musical, Portia in The Merchant of Venice, Ms. Forsythe in Death of a Salesman, Isabella in Measure for Measure, Grusha Vashnadze in The Caucasian Chalk Circle.
