Esteban Andres Cruz is an actor, dancer, singer, composer, choreographer and playwright.
They were born in Berwyn and raised in Cicero, IL and starting at the age of 5, growing up on Chicago stages.
Esteban made their off-Broadway musical debut with Norbert Leo Butz and Mary Beth Peil-in Cornelia Street. They originated the role of Philip in this world premiere musical – book by Simon Stephens, music/lyrics by Mark Eitzel, produced at the Atlantic Theater and directed by Neil Pepe. Esteban also originated the role of Venus Ramirez in the world premiere by Stephen Adly Gurgis, Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven. For that performance (Esteban’s off-Broadway acting debut) they were nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Best Featured Actor. Esteban has appeared on many stages throughout Chicago and the US. They have been workshopping The Potluck by Cesar Alvarez, Angel y Chupi by Daniela Gonzalez y Perez and also the stage adaptation of the Warner Bros / Al Pacino movie Dog Day Afternoon by Stephen Adly Guirgis. In the play, Esteban has been reading the Chris Sorandan role-the wife-since 2018. The actors who have played Esteban’s husband are John Ortiz, Bobby Canavale and Jon Bernthal. They have also gotten to act with John C Riley as the Brookly detective. Esteban won the Jeff Award in Chicago for Best Actor in Stephen Adly Guirgis’s early play Jesus Hopped the A Train. They won the After Dark Award in Chicago for Best Choreography. Esteban sings jazz, studies belly dance and loves gardening. Additionally they have performed in Bathouse.pptx at The Flea.
